He left everything to follow his teacher and possessed a passion that would change the world. That’s one way to describe Peter. Here’s another poor, uneducated, quick-tempered, and full of doubts and fears. Doesn’t even sound like the same man.

And that’s the point of Simon Peter, a new book and six-week adult Bible study by Adam Hamilton. Peter was just an ordinary guy who heard and followed God’s extraordinary call. Discover how you, too, have special gifts, talents, and abilities that God can use to make a difference today. In addition to the Leader Guide and DVD components for adult studies, corresponding youth and children’s resources, sold separately, can be used to create a churchwide study.

  1. The Call of the Fisherman
  2. Walking with Jesus in the Storm
  3. Bedrock or Stumbling Block?

"Author & Pastor Adam Hamilton has given us a thoughtful presentation on the life and times of Peter. Instead of offering a step-by-step walk-through of Peter’s life, he chose instead to focus on six important episodes which shaped both Peter’s life – and later, his ministry. I found the maps and pictures the author included to be particularly helpful.
Hamilton’s fresh approach gives the reader a chance to think about Peter in ways that can shed light on our own lives. These insights broaden one’s understanding of this great man and his message to us all.
While I don’t consider this to be a deep book, it is certainly relevant. That in itself makes it worth the reading."

  • Having went through the “24 Hours That Changed the World” DVD and book study this author wrote a few years back, when I saw this book on , I was intrigued.

What a fantastic book! I love the unique approach of focusing on Peter in the Gospels etc. and what comfort you offer any equally flawed but desiring to be faithful Christians. And while the focus seems to be on Peter, like the Gospel writers themselves, this book masterfully brings Peter’s stumblings right into Christ’s teaching points.

As a bonus, there’s a ton of information about the first century culture, Hebrew and Greek language points and apologetics in the book that all just combine to make this work a masterpiece and a must for anyone’s bookshelf.

In short, this book is an easy read and a pleasant, informative and comforting reading experience. I'm looking forward to doing the DVD and leader guide study that go with this book.
  • Adam Hamilton is one of my favorite Christian authors, and I've read many of his books, THIS book was a little disappointing - not up to his normal standard.

I bought the book because Peter is the one Disciple I relate to... the one who always doesn't quite "get it". As the title says, the flawed one... like me. Plus, I've been looking for a book about Peter for several years, so when Hamilton wrote one - Imagine my JOY!I Well... my short-lived joy.

This book is less about Simon Peter and more about preaching to me. I wish it had been more about Peter's life, his ministry, his relationship with Jesus, and less about how I should live my Christian life. If I want to be preached to, I can go to church and be preached to in person.

  • We are ALL Simon Peter. We say we will never betray Jesus, but we do and he forgives us—just as he did many times with the disciple Simon, the man Jesus named Peter, which means rock in Greek. That message of faith, hope, and inspiration is the basis of this highly readable book by Adam Hamilton.

Written for laypeople—not scholars—this book focuses on six events in the life of Simon Peter Jesus calling him to become a fisher of men; Jesus walking on the water in the midst of a raging storm and inviting Peter to do the same; Peter revealing to Jesus his identity as the messiah but then arguing with Jesus about his death; claiming he will not deny him—and then doing so three times; meeting the resurrected Jesus on the beach; and Peter's work building the church after Jesus's death and resurrection.

While each of these events is fully and eloquently explained, the true power of this short, but impressive book is in Hamilton's interpretation of the meaning behind these biblical stories. It is ideal reading for the six weeks of Lent.
  • This book is another excellent study from Adam Hamilton. It is well written and gives many different views of Simon Peter.
  • I just completed a Lenten study on this book for a group of elderly women. We thoroughly enjoyed the book and learned so much about this flawed but faithful disciple. I liked the way each chapter was based on a scripture reading, which made it easy for discussion and participation. As the leader though, I was disappointed in the leaders guide. The activities did not suit my group ( more for junior or senior high students) so I just created follow up activities that the women would enjoy. I would highly recommend this book for a group study or an individual read.
  • Great Bible study on Simon Peter, the Rock. I recommend for anyone wanting to delve into the Gospels and the life of the Apostle Peter
  • Hamilton uses several instances in the life of Peter and delivers a short message on what we are to take from each. I was expecting more of a biography. Great for what it is though.
